It was the first night of 2022 year Diwali.
I visited one of my client's retail shops. While I was there, a family from a financially struggling background came into the shop to purchase clothes for their children for Diwali.
They had very limited money.
They carefully selected the clothes they could afford and then requested a small reduction in the price so they could purchase everything their children needed.
But the retailer could not reduce the price enough.
Eventually, the family left the shop without being able to purchase everything they had come for.
It was more than just a customer leaving a shop.
It made me think deeply about the way products reach ordinary customers.
I started noticing similar situations in different places.
I realized something important:
The products were available at affordable prices from manufacturers, but by the time they reached consumers, multiple layers of the traditional retail system had increased the final price.
That raised a question in my mind:
“Why should I only supply products to retailers? Why can't I sell directly to customers at more affordable prices?”
That question became the foundation of Southkart.
I realized that if we could connect products more directly with customers, we could create better value while keeping prices affordable.
The idea was simple:
I believed that a different business model could create value for both customers and the company.
Instead of depending only on high margins, I wanted to explore a model built around:
Affordable Prices + Quality Products + Larger Customer Reach
The thinking was simple:
I didn't want Southkart to depend entirely on large marketplaces.
I wanted to create something of our own.
A platform where we could control the customer experience, understand what customers really wanted, improve pricing, build our own brand and create a long-term relationship with customers.
So I decided to build my own online shopping platform.
That decision marked the beginning of Southkart.
That Diwali night began with one family trying to buy clothes for their children.
But the lesson became much bigger.
It made me believe that affordable fashion should not be a privilege.
Every family should have the opportunity to buy good-quality products at prices they can afford.
That belief became the purpose behind Southkart.
Today, the vision is to build more than an online fashion store.
We want to build a technology-driven, affordable fashion ecosystem that connects customers with better products and better value.
